"free-motion Machine Quilting" by Don Linn aka Mr. Quilt
Here is a book that can actually help you learn to machine quilt. I have taken my teaching techniques that I have used to teach hundreds of people to machine quilt and translated them into text and photographs. While other books tell you how to do the basics of machine quilting my book goes way beyond this. I have taught machine quilting for many years and am very familiar with how frustrating it can be to the neophyte machine quilter. There are certain problems that all new machine quilters are going to have. I have seen this over and over in every machine quilting class that I teach. What sets my book apart from all of the others is that I identify the common problems that occur without fail. I then explain what is probably causing the problems and offer suggestions on how to overcome the problem that the new machine quilter is going to experience. Exercises are given to improve the aspiring machine quilter's stitching accuracy.
Tips are provided on how to easily stitch more complicated designs such as ropes and heirloom feathers. Another tip is given on how to easily transfer designs to your quilt. This will open up a whole new world of design possibilities. This tip alone is worth the price of the book.
If you purchase this book and follow the instructions you WILL be able to machine quilt your own work. However there is one caveat: You must be willing to practice, practice, practice.
The title of this book should have been "Why Send It Out?"
